Sandbaggers is the home of the Wild Golf World Series ©. Our concept is a simple one. We seek out extreme environments and conditions, dig (or melt) 9 holes into the ground and mark out a course. The courses are full of dangers, hazards and difficulty but all are playable. We bend normal golf rules a bit to fit the terrain, but it’s a serious sport and competitors fight for the coveted winner’s trophy on the following courses:
The Cold Course, Mongolia
12th and 13th January 2014 – COMPLETE, and recently aired on BBC1. View the highlights here
Played on the Mongolian Steppe in temperatures dipping to -40C, competitors brushed shoulders with yaks, nomads and wolves. Clear blue skies and some of the World’s most stunning vistas are guaranteed. Post round hospitality is spent in Mongolia’s most stunning hotel, The Terelj.
2014 saw teams from South Africa, Mongolia, Ireland, England and Scotland compete in our inaugural event. Those of you who didn’t make it can watch us on the BBC Adventure Show.
Our next Cold Course competition will be played along the frozen rivers of Northern Mongolia in January 2016.
The Sand Course, Namibia
9th and 10th February 2015 – COMPLETE
Finishing on top of the World’s highest sand dunes, our sand course takes place in the Namib desert, the oldest desert in the World. The course is 100% sand and competitors will enjoy teeing off, and putting* on, the highest sand peaks on Earth. Entry to this pristine wilderness is strictly controlled and while players won’t encounter any other people they will experience plenty of unusual and beautiful wildlife.
2015 saw teams from Namibia, South Africa, Kenya and Scotland battle it out on the World’s highest sand dunes. After a tough competition Scotland claimed the both 1st and 2nd place.
*we appreciate the difficulties of putting on sand!
